Very Nasty Cold and Stomach Flu

Well I was so tired I almost didnt get out of bed today (yeah right who am I kidding that isnt an option with a five-year old) The first thing I noticed was that my sinuses were so congested that my whole face hurt really bad.  I figured okay maybe some kind of allergy?   Then my daughter comes running up with her nose running and I thought great another cold thanks to kindergarten.

She has no fever or any other symptoms so I get her fed and we go grab a coffee for me and chocolate milk for her and head off to school.   As we are nearing the school she starts to complain that her tummy hurts (she says this quite often usually when she wants to walk super slow) then when we get there she comes to a dead stop on the top of the playground and grabs her bottom with a look on her face that can only be described as (really odd).

So as my poor baby is standing there horror struck and silent holding her bottom on the park my brain finally kicks in and i ask her if she needs to go to the washroom…. and she screams at me “YES MAMA RIGHT NOW HURRY RIGHT NOW”

I take her to the front doors and we wait to buzzed into the school then head for the washroom.  Parents are forbidden to enter the washroom is strictly kids only so like a good parent I attempt to wait outside….. every couple minutes I pop my head in and ask are you okay and she says mommy I am still going…. go away.

15 minutes later as the older kids are entering the school (they go in before kindergarten kids do) I finally say to hell with this something is certainly wrong with my child and I barge right in while being glared at my the grade 2 teacher who’s turn it is to monitor that section of hall.   Sure enough she is having a problem she cant stop going and she is covered in poop.  So I clean her all up and walk to her class which is still empty except the teacher and tell her that we are going home as she is sick.  We then wait on the front steps for a minute while the kindergarten kids go in their door then start walking home (hey she was embarrased and upset enough she didnt need people staring at her right)

The rest of my day has consisted of everyone taking turns in the washroom and using klenex at an alarming rate (nose must be blown every couple minutes or it feels like your head is gonna explode).  Why is my family cant get one ilness at a time like a cold or flu, or stomach flu.

Rock Candy—Kids recipes

Rock Candy

rock candy

Photo by Sabrina at www. flickr.com/nightwishes33 (isnt her photo georgeous)
2 c granulated sugar
Heavy cord
1 c water
Put one cup of water into a small saucepan, pour 2 cups of granulated sugar into
the water, heat the water and sugar on the stove over a medium heat, continue stirring until the
sugar melts, keep adding sugar and stirring until it melts, stop adding sugar when you see that it
will no longer dissolve in the water (that is until you see sugar lying on the bottom of the
saucepan). Remove the pot from the stove, let the liquid cool until it is just warm. Pour the liquid
into a clean glass jar. Tie one end of a piece of heavy cord around the middle of a pencil. Place the
pencil over the top of the glass jar letting the cord fall into the liquid. Crystals will begin to form in
a few hours. The next day, remove the cord from the jar, pour the sugar liquid back into the
saucepan, reheat and cool it just as you did before. Pour the liquid back into the jar and reinsert
the cord with the crystals into it. More crystals will form. If you repeat this procedure every day the
crystal candy will grow bigger and bigger. When it has reached a size that pleases you, snip off any
excess string and enjoy.
